March 20, 2006 - 10:03 AM Playing with a Ukulele Lady Hey, look at that, over two weeks since I last wrote something. What a surprise. If you're in L.A. this Wednesday and want to see my play my cellemello, I'll be accompanying my friend Victoria at Genghis Cohen at 10 PM, along with our friend Mike Tarantino. Mike and I coproduced, coengineered, and comixed most of Victoria's Ukulele album last summer, and she'll be in town for a few days following a stop in Austin this weekend for South-by-Southwest. While Victoria is mainly a pop songwriter, she's been concentrating a lot on her ukulele side of things. An entire album of ukulele songs seems like it could be a gimmick or novelty, but in this case, it isn't. I do have to warn you, the performance could get...interesting. Mike and I finally rehearsed yesterday for a few hours, trying to arrange parts for the cello, melodica, and guitar. We didn't set anything in stone, and we won't have time to get together again before the performance, so it'll be a wing and a prayer for us on Wednesday. Also keeping me busy this week will be at least one Carina Round show, maybe two if I go to see her at the Viper Room tonight; the first of three baseball fantasy drafts on Tuesday, and the second on Saturday; and possible bowling with co-workers on Friday. That's all for now...I'll maybe write more later. Now Listening To : Kirsty MacColl-Tropical Brainstorm Random Thought : You people are so cute. What I Just Wrote Before - What I'm About to Write
