Walk-offs and Weblinks

Did you hear about the Dodgers' game last Monday? How they were down 9-5 to the Padres in the bottom of the ninth, and they tied it up by reeling off four homeruns back to back to back to back? The last 3 on consecutive pitches? And how San Diego pulled ahead by one in the tenth, only to have Nomar Garciaparra punch a two-run homer into the seats in the bottom of the tenth to win it? And the win put them a half game ahead of the Padres in the NL West?

And did you hear about how the Dodgers' fans, in typical L.A. style, started streaming out in the eighth inning, but once the homers started, many of them flooded back in. And then when Nomar won it, they went absolutely bitchcakes all over the place, and were still screaming and high-fiving in the stands 20 minutes after he crossed the plate? That's the kind of game you wish would take place when you go to the stadium. Not the dismal showing LDBL, Mer, Liz and I went to on Saturday, when the Padres spanked the Dodgers 11-2. They musta hit 34 two-run homers or something that night.

Just our luck to have gone to that game. But that seems to be the way my baseball luck has gone recently. I'm battling to stay in fourth place in the big fantasy league, which would merely return me the money I put in ($500); every move I've made in the past month seems to have been the wrong move. In a second league, I'm hanging onto third place for dear life, which would net me $20 on top of what I put in. It's only in the league with Tony, Matt, Phil, Nick, and LDBL, where I've been comfortably in first since June, where I will see a big payday. And remember, at one point, in July, I was in first place in all three leagues. Hmmph.

Only two more weeks of my regular-season cocaine. Then it's on to 3 week of hyper-super-addling crack. And then a winter of sad, sad withdrawal. I miss baseball already.

Maybe the new tv season will hold me over. How many of you are also watching Aaron Sorkin's new show, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip?

Check out this clip which I edited. My first piece of tangible work on the job! If you have problems opening it on the first try, don't close Windows Media Player. Leave WMP open, go back to the webpage and click on the link again. That seems to do the trick sometimes. Otherwise, get a real computer, luddite.
