November 27, 2003 - 2:27 AM Stars In Their Multitude...Filling the Darkness with Order and Light ************ Somewhere from Barstow and Las Vegas. Sky covering all horizon lines...like driving through a planetarium. Orion slung low to the northeast. Before, a 3 hour crawl out of L.A. county; after, an ominous race towards the Luxxor beam and all the photonic pollution ringing Sin City. But - Then...There...in between; few cars to pace me, a path straight and true. And the night impossibly huge, with a vastness that touches everything, splayed beyond infinity. Stars so clear, pristine, and present, their constellation patterns seem innate, universal. If you live in a city, you tend to forget, tend to miss the night sky. How huge and unfathomable it is. How awe-inspiring it is. And how close yet unreachable it is. I made it to Las Vegas in 7 hours. A trip that should normally be 4 hours. But that's ok. I listened to music the whole way, including Christmas songs (like many people, Thanksgiving time is the official kick off of the Christmas season for me, when all the accoutrements come out, like decorations and carols and foodstuffs). At one point, after having eaten a chicken sandwich from a Rest stop McDonalds, I started to fade, so I called my sister in order to stay awake. Our conversation was brief since she was in the middle of watching the new Tomb Raider, so I then called my friend Mark, who had just finished supervising our High School's Senior Variety Show. That did the trick, and when he hung up, I was refreshed and managed the 3 final hours of driving. And now I write this entry from the computer in my cousin Roz's room, where there are too many pillows on the bed. Do I just toss them on the floor when I crawl under the sheets? Or do I stack them up on one corner and sleep on the other side? Now Listening To : The Cardigans-Life Random Thought : Treat Williams is cool. reference:"Everwood", "Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead", "Deep Rising". Discuss.
