February 16, 2004 - 9:37 AM Fried in the Brain My brain is pretty numb right now. If you were to meet me at this moment, you would think that I was severely stoned. I have the overwhelming essence of weed rolling off of me, saturating my clothes; my eyes are half-lidded and a bit blood-shot; my gait is uneven and slow; and my speech, well, I can't get out more than a few mumbles. But honestly, really, I haven't been smoking up. I've just worked 70 hours over the last 4 days in a room where the chronic was never NOT lit. How many bags of pot the producer, the engineer, and the various hangers-on have gone through, I do not know, but it's been quite a lot. The audio fatigue has also been draining. Listening to anything, but especially the same song over and over, for 17 hours a day at head-splitting levels can make one tired. The loudness of it all, and the constancy, requires your brain to maintain focus on the audio. But too much, and, eventually, your ears shut down because your mind can not bear to process any more information. And, strangely, a physical tiredness manifests to compliment the mental fatigue. All this, compounded with the 4 hours of sleep, produces one tired Paul. So tired, he doesn't even know if that last paragraph made sense, nor does he care. It's very possible that this session with this producer will continue for a week, maybe even a month. Dear god, please let that not be true. I am already forlorn to be missing Kyler and Adrianne tonight at the Hotel Cafe, but my friend Victoria is playing on the 25th at the MBar and I haven't seen her in 3 years, so I CAN'T miss that. OOhhh, and Jonatha Brooke is coming around to support her new album too! Now Listening To : Moby-Play Random Thought : I want some sweet, sweet loving. Gimme!
