July 30, 2003 - 9:39 PM Good News/Bad News Good news, Paul. You've just been promoted. Starting next week, you'll be a full-time recording assistant. No more 8PM to 4 AM shift for you! Bad news, Paul. You won't be receiving a pay raise just yet; and your work schedule will go back to being extremely schizophrenic, with you not knowing day-to-day what hours you'll be working or even if you'll be working at all. Good news, Paul. You'll be able to rack up MASSIVE amounts of overtime, and, if you're lucky, you could work for weeks on end, making loads of cash. Bad news, Paul. If things continue to be slow at the studio, you might go weeks on end without any appreciable work, which would equal no money. Good news, Paul. You won't have to go get food for clients, answer phones, clean up other peoples' messes, go driving all over the place on runs, or mop the floors anymore. Bad news, Paul. You'll have to be in the room when clients listen to "music" at head-shattering volumes while smoking enough ganja to get a herd of elephants floating. Good news, Paul. The two year grind in L.A., the toil and trouble is finally paying off with this next step. You've survived one studio filing for bankruptcy. You've weathered the doldrums which the entire BIG MUSIC business has happily created and blundered into. You've kept your soul intact. Bad news, Paul. If things don't change in the music business, you'll be as useless as a vestigial tail; the job you are aiming for will be extinctual. You better develop backup plans and a wide net of contacts. Oh, and we want your soul. P.S. Congratulations. Now Listening To : My tummy gurbling. Random Thought : Hey you! Sign up for my notify list. Do it now! You will reap great benefits.
