June 12, 2006 - 5:45 PM Let's Play the Dating Game! What was my excuse for abandoning you, my pretty readers, last week? Was it any different from my not updating the previous two weeks? Well, yes it was. Three weeks ago it was because my parents visited for Memorial Day weekend. Two weeks ago, it was because I went out to shows every day of the work week except Wednesday, AND I also started freelance engineering work at Technicolor after regular work hours. And last week, well, I decided to re-explore the online dating world. Because, as I've told some of you, I appear to be crushing on everything that moves lately, and that leads to desperation, and desperation leads to internet personals. It's gotten to the point where I'm no longer just dropping hints that I want a girlfriend, I'm flat out telling people to find me one. The cousins, of course, are of no help, or else I'd be hitched by now. No one else is offering any solutions. I've even asked my friends at the animation studio for our show if there are any single girls there (prompted because there's a new one that works there who is blisteringly hot, out of my league hot, but considering that they aren't immediately jumping to "x is available", I'm guessing she's already taken). Since they are hiring a bunch of new staffers and animators (they'll be handling animation for the new Futurama episodes and some of the Simpsons movie in addition to our show), my friends promised to be on the lookout for me. In the meantime, buoyed by my success (hah) in meeting A on Friendster (I had a good time at her birthday party, and she came out to a Vienna Teng show last week at the Hotel Cafe and loved that, so woohoo! New Friend!), I've begun searching through Friendster for more interesting girls. I also updated my account on the Salon Personals website and started looking for girls there, too. Let me tell you, matching up with girls, reading their profiles, agonizing over what exactly to write to them, that takes a lot of time. It eats away at any energy and creativity that could be channeled to writing for this diary. Between those two websites, I've probably written to at least a dozen and a half girls in a little over a week. We'll see if I can maintain my interest for another week, or if the lack of responses beats my soul down and stops me cold. Help me, online personals. You're my only hope.
