Dance Break!

N's party went quite well. Mostly people from his work and their friends, many of whom I'd previously met. We ate, we drank, we played various games, including the Mexican Train version of Dominos; Apples to Apples (a demented variation on "What doesn't fit?"); 25 Words or Less (a cousin game to Taboo); and Time's Up (Charades on crack). Plus a few Playstation 2 battles which, interestingly enough, were waged mostly by the girls in attendance. And, yes, I had my butt summarily whupped by one of the girls in NHL Hockey.

We also got a little dance party going around 11:30 or so that went on for about an hour. It took some prodding, some cajoling, some enticing to get everyone up, but eventually the furniture was moved to the side and limbs were sent akimbo. Sometimes it's just so scary (yet amusing) to watch white people shake their money makers. We got down to selections from the Pulp Fiction soundtrack, James Brown (get UP-uh!), the Beach Boys, Duran Duran, Paula Abdul, MC Hammer, Tone Loc, and several others. We even pulled out the ol' Electric Slide (which is my answer to the question "what do you get when you Country Line Dance to pop-dance music?"). Other dance moves that were pulled out of the closet and dusted off for all to see were the Roger Rabbit, the NKOTB/Milli Vanilli Lateral Leg Swing, the Running Man, the Kid N Play Feet Tap, and a shameful attempt at the Hammertime Shuffle.

Know what? I got fake money shoved into my pants pockets while I danced. Can you say "sweet"? I knew you could.

As you can see, it was a pretty geeky party. I've become a fiend for party games after being introduced to them by several of my cousins here in L.A. Anytime a handful of us get together, or other cousins visit from out of town, we end up playing these games and going nuts (not as two separate actions, mind you. The going nuts portion is directly tied into the playing of the games, see.). The games are a blast, especially when they are turned into drinking (huzzah!) games. Trying to describe or explain the actual games here would make them sound boring, but trust me, once you get involved, there's lots of gesticulating, screaming, hitting, cursing of first-born children, and all-around insanity.

Do yourselves a favor. If you are amused by the creative usage of brains while competing with and against friends and family or, better yet, the feeble, impaired attempt to use schnockered and pickled brains in zany games with friends and family, pick up any of the games I mentioned above. They're fairly inexpensive ways to entertain for the night (except for the booze, of course, which will cost you plenty).

However, what I don't recommend is trying to get a dance revolution started with people who have no place on a dance floor.

Now Listening To : She's a Brick....HOOOOOUUUUUUUUSE.
Random Thought : Does anyone out there remember the proper dance moves for MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice? Can you diagram them for me?
