Hooray for Radio and TV

I feel dirty. I watched the Disney Channel's High School Musical, a tweeny-pop version of a musical, in its entirety last night. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. What is wrong with me?

Then again, a few weeks ago, all it took to make my day was to hear the them from the Neverending Story while I was in a baby store buying rubber sheets. For my boss's 3 year old son. Not me. I haven't had THAT problem for at least a few...months.

Redeemingly, I did watch the series finale(s) of Arrested Development last week. 2 hours of non-stop insanity. See what happens when you don't watch good shows? They get cancelled! Shame on you! No more Bob Loblaw Lobbing Law Bombs, no more Annyong, no more Amputees teaching lessons. You know who's made a huge mistake? You.

Don't make a mistake by ignoring Scrubs either. The show has been good fun since they started up the new season in January by showing two episodes every Tuesday at 9. Last week's episodes had some incredibly funny moments that you can check out via links here. Seriously, it will bring a smile to your face. This is a great blog to find out what songs are used on shows like Scrubs, the OC, and Grey's Anatomy, and to download mp3s of the songs.

Speaking of which, another friend had their song used on Grey's Anatomy. Angela Correa, the girl with whom I occasionally play cello, had a new song called "I Tell Myself" played during the haunting opening montage of this past week's GA. Exciting! You can listen to it on her MySpace page. She's got a show tomorrow night at Molly Malones, but I won't be accompanying her. Perhaps her next show at the Hotel Cafe on March 6th (aww, two days after you leave, Pam...bad timing), I'll get the chance to join her on stage again.

Tomorrow also has Kate Earl at the Hotel Cafe, so I might be doing 2 shows in one night. Thursday is Adrianne at the Hotel, her last show in L.A. before she heads out on tour (she'll be on the east coast soon); Friday is another Inara George gig (I saw her last week at Tangier...even though her album was my favorite from last year, and I had plenty of chances to see her live over the past 2, that was my first time seeing her); and Saturday is Petracovich with a late set at Room 5. It's going to be a busy week.

It hasn't been all busyness for me. That's not why I've been over a week delinquent on updates. Three words. World of Warcraft. I'm getting sucked in again. Stupid game. I have to grow up.

Although....I have found myself listening to NPR a lot. Does that mean I'm growing up? The past couple months, I've not only been listening to the music program Morning Becomes Eclectic, but I also tune in to Morning Edition, All Things Considered, To the Point, The World, and Marketplace. MARKETPLACE?! I'm not even really active in stocks and funds, but I like that show a lot. Huh? With the amount of time I spend driving around L.A. for work, that's between 1 and 4 hours of public radio news programming that I listen to everyday.

I have to admit, NPR is cool. Last Friday, they pulled something out of their hat that proves how hip they can be. I'm sure many of you have seen those fake movie trailers online that put a different spin on genre classics. There's one that turns The Shining into a comedy, another that makes Big a thriller. One that's making the rounds now is Brokeback To the Future, a preview that converts the Back to the Future trilogy into a romantic swooner between Marty McFly and Doc Brown. You can get links to the clips off the NPR website.

And, yes, Soph, I will tell them about how you heard KT Tunstall on NPR, liked her sound, did some websurfing, and discovered this Scottish girl of Chinese descent. If you paid more attention to this blog, though, you would have read me talk her up a little over the past month. Shame on you.
