October 27, 2005 - 2:19 PM Not a Hermit, Maybe a Lush So that last entry wasn't entirely true. I am getting old and curmudgeonly, yes. But I'm also doing stuff outside of my apartment. Sure, I've alloted myself more time in front of the tv, but that's not all that I do after work and on weekends. It helps to have stopped playing World of Warcraft. Tony, you should look into it. It's called "having a life." Yesterday, for instance, I went over to the Hotel Cafe with Matt to attempt to catch Imogen Heap playing (we didn't get in because the place is teeny and she's got a bit of a following in L.A. thanks to support from hip local college radio station KCRW and her exposure through Garden State and The O.C.). Tuesday I did sound for one of Kyler's friends at the M-Bar. Sunday, I saw Doom. That after recovering from a housewarming party at Richard and Kyler's apartment (even though they've been in their new place for over a year) on Saturday. Got to hang out with a bunch of people I knew from Berklee, some of Kyler's singer-songwriter friends, and other people I didn't know. There were lots of snacks and appetizers and of course, booze. How about Wednesday of last week, when I caught Kim Fox at the Hotel Cafe (her first show in 2 years) at 8, and then walked briskly one block over to a club called Ivar where we were having our Premiere Party. Carol flew in from Vegas for this (although she was initially under the impression that this was a show that I was playing cello at), joining my posse of Tony, Margaret, Sharon, Matt, and LDBL. It wasn't that cool of a party, despite the fact that we had burlesque dancers and MiniKiss and free booze and free In-And-Out burgers. Or the Wednesday before that when I went out for dinner with the cousins at a Japanese Tapas restaurant on the West side? Or the Wednesday before THAT when I went to a Margarita bar in Santa Monica to have drinks with some Amherst Alumni? And then back in September, I did sound at the theater for a benefit dance performance on a Saturday and a Sunday and went out for beers with the crew. Hmmm...there seems to be a pattern here. Leading all the way back to Tony's bachelor party, it looks like 90% of the time when I go out and do stuff, it involves drinking. That won't be changing anytime soon, as I'm headed out for drinks with Television Without Pity people on Saturday (and maybe a Halloween party or two afterwards), followed by a Costume Party on Sunday thrown by our animation studio, Rough Draft. Good thing my parents are off to Korea today so that my dad can visit his ailing mother, or else my mom might think I have a drinking problem. Now Listening To : The Weeds- the faraway flying of broken beating (fans of Feist should listen to this album) Random Thought : Anyone watching my show? Wednesday's at 10:30 on Comedy Central.
