Woah.

Where have I gone? What have I been up to? Mysteries galore.

First, for those chomping at the bit about my romanticky life, things with Girl 1 have kinda ground to a halt. I was away, then she was away, then she went away again, and emails have been sparse. And last night we exchanged correspondences in which she explained that she had just gotten back from a last minute work-trip to New Jersey and was completely bushed (although she got to sit next to Deborah Gibson on the plane) and was gathering her strength for a dinnerdate. So I paused, and I pondered, and I of course read too much into it as I am wont to do, and I figured that her not making an effort to see me these past weeks means that she's just not that into me.

Having thought that such was the case earlier, and not wanting to put all my eggs in one basket, I had resumed contacting girls on the personals website. And gotten a response from one or two. In fact, I went on a date with one, which didn't have much chemistry; and then I talked on the phone with another, and that was a bit of a flop. I chalked that up to maybe possibly owing to the fact that I'm awful at phone conversations. Hedging my bets, I asked that girl out, and she said yes.

We've now been on three dates, and get this, we've smooched. And it's been nice. And I'll leave details out for now. Ha!

Tuesday, I had my first Hollywood Bowl experience. It was to see Hilary Hahn perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor with the L.A. Philharmonic. Boy, she kicked ass from here to Altoona with that performance. There is no doubt in my mind that she is worthy of her stardom.

The Phil was a bit off though. Not when they were accompanying Hilary, but with the other two pieces they performed. There were wrong notes, out of tune players, and timing issues. You'd think they'd be better than that, but one of the producers in my office says that he's noticed that whenever he goes to the Hollywood Bowl, the Phil seems to phone it in sometimes.

Two cool notes from the concert: 1) I stood in line to say hi to Hilary while she was signing autographs after the show, and when I said "I don't know if you remember me, but way back when we were little, I played with you in a trio at Peabody", her look changed from quizzical to "aha" and she hugged me. I told her "hi" from you, Soph, and from Phil, and she was sad that we couldn't catch up more. In her dress, on stage, she looked so adult, so professional, but at the booth, she was just in jeans and a tshirt, and she wa the same little girl I knew 15 years ago. 2) As I was exiting the seats, shambling along with the masses, I saw Keanu Reeves walking down the aisles, talking with Tate Donovan. Honestly.

Random Thought : Phil's in town this weekend. We are going to get jiggy with it.
