Getting the Warm Fuzzies

Well, it was just a two day session with RF. But at least I got more than 12 hours on the clock each day. I'll be coming back in tomorrow to finish up work on Victoria's song Still with the cello, then maybe do a good mix; I've also got some of the guys I work with interested in having me put some cello on their own songs, so I might be able to fit that in too.

Friday, Halloween, I'll probably be going to a party at another recording studio in North Hollywood. A bunch of people that work here are going, too, and there are sure to be other people in the industry who I've met there. Nick, do you and LDBL and Mer want to tag along?

Season Premiere of 24 was on last night. I've watched the first two seasons as they aired all the way through, although I have to admit that, while I think it's a good show that pulls me in each week because of the cliffhangers they keep throwing at us, I don' t think that it's a great show. It gets very hoky at times, and falls into some fairly predictable situations/complications that you'd expect out of generic genre action/suspense shows and movies. Stuff like when there are misunderstandings because of stupid lack of communication, or someone needs to divulge some important info, but they beat around the bush, or they say "meet me at the old mill" instead of just telling the other person right out on the phone what the info is. And the dialogue that goes along with that cliched crap...*shudder* But I still watch every week to find out what happens next, and where the overall arc takes the story. This first episode of season three, like the rest of the shows I've been watching this fall, didn't fire up my interest levels to anything more than fuzzy warm.

Speaking of warm and fuzzy, call me a sucker, but I really like those new commercials for AT&T Wireless that feature parents hearing/seeing their kids while on the phone. There's the one with the traveling dad, who goes through a montage of the mundane, from hotel to taxi to airport. As he slumps wearily, waiting for his delayed flight, he hears this little girl's voice say, "hi daddy", and crouched on the seat next to him is this adorable curly-haired girl. He says he's missed her, and, this part kills me, she responds "I missed you too" in that marble-mouthed way kids have of speaking. As people pass in front of the camera, blocking our view of the dad and daughter exchange, the girl disappears, and we see him speaking to her on his cell phone.

The other one I like has a mother travelling on the bus, looking forlorn and tired; she brightens up as music starts up, and we see at the front of the bus, a little boy performing a piece on a grand piano. She looks upon him proudly as he concentrates on the piece, and then we are taken to a recital hall where he is on stage, with his father in the audience holding up a phone. The mother is listening to the recital on her phone. *sigh*

Soph, what piece is that that the boy is playing, do you know?

I just received the full box sets of Homicide: Life on the Streets season 3 and Farscape season 2 yesterday. Many of the episodes from Homicide I haven't seen in 6 years, some, not since their original airdates almost 9 years ago. I think I'll watch them in order and, as I do, write about each episode here. I'm not sure what I'll write, but we'll see how it goes.

Oh, and would you look at that, I've got a bunch of new readers. Hey all. Welcome. Hope you enjoy my finger ramblings.

Random Thought : As my friend Mia pointed out, isn't it romantically comforting to have early autumn evenings again?
