Why's it so hot? Summer's over. Autumn, get your ass over here and cool us down.

Friendster is an interesting...whatever it is. One of my friends from Massachusetts, Tasha, invited me to join. I'm "friends" with 3 other people, and I'm suddenly connected to over 110,000 people. Including Amherst College. WTF?! Who knew that places had the wherewithal to log on to the net and create profiles. How did I discover the Amherst entry? I got a personal message from Mt. Holyoke College trying to match me up with Amherst, my semi-alma-mater. As if I'd date a 183 year old. Silly Tasha (she went to Holyoke).

Speaking of Amherst, I miss my cat. I got her when I was going to school there in '96. She lived with me as her primary parental figure for 4.5 of her 7 years, but she lives with my parents in Maryland now; and so I only get to see her maybe twice a year. I'm afraid that she's forgetting who I am. Whenever I call my mom, she goes to find Newt (the cat), puts her up to the phone, and squeezes her to get her to squeak/meow. Poor girl. What I miss is her coming up to me when I watched tv at 6 in the afternoon after work, jumping up in my lap, doing a little kneading on my shirt, then falling asleep stretched up my chest as I slouched. Or her coming up to me on cue when i turned off the light at bedtime, jumping up to join me, pacing up and down while I skritched her, then settling down next to my legs and falling asleep. Yes, most of my fond memories of her involve her falling asleep.

Nissan has a new tv commercial for the Altima featuring a nifty indie-pop type song with the lyrics "where do we go, where do we go now, ba buh ba ba, ba buh ba ba". Catchy. The singer is a girl named Tracy Spuehler, who I now realize I saw playing on the same bill as Sylvie Lewis back in August. Which explains why the tune had such familiarity for me when I saw the commercial.

Yesterday, I saw both Once Upon a Time In Mexico and Underworld. Mexico was horrible. Confusing, jarring, unfocused, it even wasted Johnny Depp. Now that's a feat (although I did enjoy seeing him do a vocal impression of Marlon Brando as a priest). If you liked El Mariachi and Desperado, do yourself a favor and DON'T see this movie.

Underworld, on the other hand, was pretty solid. I was expecting it to be a ripoff of The Matrix meets Blade, but it was quite different. Very plot driven. It actually kinda reminded me of the tv version of Highlander with all the historical flashbacks and "let's give 'em juuuust enough information" plot twists that peppered each episode. Difficult for me to reconcile the fact that this hottie Selene was portrayed by the same actress who was so optimistic and perky in Cold Comfort Farm which I just watched again recently. Mmmm...Kate Beckinsale.

Did you know that Kiera Knightley, the white girl from Bend it Like Beckham and Pirates of the Caribbean, was in Star Wars:The Phantom Menace as one of Queen Amidala's handmaiden/body guards? Tony lent me the dvd, and she's in one of the documentaries, trying on one of Amidala's royal outfits for the costume designers. I skipped over to the end credits of the movie itself, and there she is. I thought she looked like the love child of Winona Ryder and Natalie Portman when I saw her two movies this summer.
