I Can Dream, Can't I? Only If They Can Be Crushed.

If the baseball season were to end today (just a few days past the 81 game halfway point), I would be making lots of cash money, because each of the three teams that I manage in my fantasy baseball leagues is in first place. I'm shocked, shocked I tell ya.

I've been comfortably holding onto first in the league with Tony, Nick, LDBL, Matt, and Phil for a month and a half, while I've been jabbing with Phil in the second league over first place for about 4 weeks now. The trifecta has been accomplished as of midnight tonight, when the team that Tony and I co-manage in the showbiz league with the big winner's pot will officially take over first place following a three-week meteoric rise from 12th place. That one has been a very pleasant surprise, as we'd been floundering in the bottom third of the rankings for most of the season. But strong Junes from various players (particularly our two Minnesota Twins, Justin Morneau and Francisco Liriano) have forced us up through the middle third into the top tier. We were sitting pretty in 4th place for most of last week before rocketing over everyone into first tonight.

Splitting that pot with Tony would net me a thousand bucks (wooo!), and the other two leagues would add close to six hundred more. I'm not optimistic that I'll finish in first in all three leagues, what with 3 more months of baseball to play, but it's nice to dream for now.

Speaking of dreams, it seems like the new girl has lost interest in moi. At least, that's how I'm intepreting her lack of contact and plan-making-with-me. Most of you who I've talked to about this have preached patience while I've been agonizing daily, nay, hourly, over her not emailing in a timely fashion or calling and her not having time to do stuff with me. Sure, maybe it's because she's been very busy with work and having a friend from out of town visiting. But if you're interested in someone, you at least try to make an effort to stay in contact with them, right?

So here I am, still holding out hope for a date tomorrow/today (monday), the only holiday "day" that we're both free, but not holding out hope, you know what I mean? If she calls/emails me tomorrow asking to hang out, do I say yes? Is she stringing me along? Is it one of those things where it's easy for a girl to have guys who pine for them as friends? I don't want that to be me.

Since I didn't really have plans for the weekend, I worked. Friday night, Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning and afternoon, I went in to Technicolor to do dialogue editing. Working over the holiday weekend. Fun, huh? I could have finished the work on Saturday, but I had to leave early so that I could drive down to San Pedro (near Long Beach) to play cello with Angela. We hadn't played/practiced in months, but it went well, and the rest of the artists on the lineup were phenomenal. I bought everyone's CDs, I loved it that much, and I talked to all of them afterwards to compliment them. You can find them all on MySpace: Let's Go Sailing, The Sweet Hurt, and Ferraby Lionheart. Matt, you will dig Ferraby. He's like Jon Brion, only less annoying. And he did a beautiful cover of Naked Eyes' "Always Something There to Remind Me".
