September 20, 2004 - 4:00 PM CONNECT. Dude. Fucking dude. Seriously. How did I ever live without cable and broadband internet access? Was the sky as blue before? Did the water taste as pure? Did my pants fit as snugly? Not since I got a cell phone 13 months ago have I experienced this sensation of breaking through to a whole new world, a world teeming with magic and butterflies and colors beyond the ROY G BIV spectrum. Oh joy. Rapturous joy. Frabjulous joy. Now I can visit graphic/java/plug-in intensive websites and not have to wait eons for them to load (hello Largo Homepage). I have no fear of visiting links that Mark or Nick or Tony send me that contain audio and video files (babies everywhere!) several megabytes big, for now my computers can snatch 'em and plunk 'em down on my hard drive quicker than a rabbit can kill a gorilla. And the tv? No longer do I have to suffer through suspect antennae reception, especially on channel 2, CBS, where I could only pray I would have moderate fuzz during Joan of Arcadia on Friday nights. Beautiful, smooth, pristine channels, luring me with their siren songs of Popeil products, I Love the WhateverDecades recollections, and Sportscenter splashes. Even though I only have 80 some channels as compared to the hundreds that the digital cable subscribers have, I have the channels I need and, honestly, I think the picture quality is better than digital cable's splotchy, spottiness. Strangely enough, the first thing that my friends have said to me when I told them that I was splurging on the nectar of the cybergods is "well, I guess we're never going to see you again" or some such variation- "so you won't have any reason to visit our apartment anymore"; "are you ever going to leave your place?"; "what is this rash, and do you think it's spread since last time?" They know me too well. Although, I do have to admit that I will still hang out at Nick and LDBL's place, or at Tony's (no longer Tony and Jenny's because Jennifer moved up to SF), or at Matt and Sharon's because they still feed me. Feed me but good. What's worse, though, is that with this new speedy connection to the internet, I downloaded a game called Out of the Park Baseball, which simulates baseball seasons realistically. Nick is worried that I'll never sleep again since I have no sense of moderation or self-control. And, whaddya know, he's right. I was up until 4 AM playing it last night. Which means I only got 4 hours of sleep before work today. But then, one can not fully experience pleasure without pain, right? Now Listening To : Lightning Seeds - Sense Random Thought : Everyone say hi to my friend Mia. Hi! What I Just Wrote Before - What I'm About to Write
