An Eve-ning Sighting

Another diary entry? In less than 5 hours? What madness is this?!

Sylvie's show tonight was ok. She had the same band that's been backing her the past several times she's performed, and I have to say, I kinda wish that she'd go back to doing sets with more solo songs. The musicians in the band are all quite good, but they all play too much. In this case, "more" is too much...more is less. The band tends to obscure the lyrics, the music, and most importantly, HER behind a wall of sound. When it's just Sylvie, you can hear her gentle guitar playing and the intimacy of her voice much more clearly, which allows the audience to connect with her. That's the Sylvie that I like.

The guy who played before her was someone named Caleb Kane. Now, I've indicated previously hereabouts, and I'm sure many of you have gleaned just from my "Now Listening To" selections, that I don't favor the boy singers. And I especially eschew the solo boy singers with guitars because most of them bore me like mad. So you know that a guy who catches my attention must really be doing something good to do so. Caleb did so. Just a guy and a guitar, he had an impressive voice and simple, catchy songs. Impassioned, personal, vulgar, painful, beautiful songs.

After I and another guy bought copies of his E.P., an older woman who I think was Caleb's mother came up to each of us and told us to hold on to the CD since it would be a keepsake once the album came out on Warner Brothers. Hee. I half thought that it was really cute that his mom was so forwardly supportive of him, and half thought that it was creepy that she was pushing him like that, sorta like those crazy stage-moms who pimp their kids so that they can live vicariously through their offspring's fame.

Anyways, the reason why I brough up the whole Caleb Kane thing was that the girl who was selling his CDs and who appeared to be his girlfriend was Sarah Thompson, the actress who played Eve this past season on Angel. Not as short as I thought she was, but very cute with that same lopsided mouth and girlish voice. I wanted to point out to her that she was on TV right at that moment (the WB was reshowing the finale to Angel tonight at 8 PM, which is when Caleb took the stage), but I refrained from bugging her.

Mark, a cd is out in the mail chockful of 168 MP3's. Enjoy. Anyone else want a cd of MP3's (or just a regular audio mix cd)? I got some time to make mix cds, and I enjoy it, so why not?

Random Thought : I read a book. And finished it. Thanks to the usefulness of Jury Duty! Forthcoming is my review of The DaVinci Code.
