Busy Weekends Busy Weeks

You know how a couple entries ago, I wrote about wasting time at work because there wasn't much for me to do? Well that certainly has changed in a hurry. I've been really tied up with things, mostly work, but also various events, which have cut down on the time that I usually allot to the writing of this diary. Ok, the idea that I set aside time to write this diary is laughable. It's more like, those rare times when I'm really, really bored and realize that it's been 3 weeks since my last update and I don't want to try to sneak in some game playing time while I'm working in case someone catches me, so I might as well type away in a fakey way of pretending to be working. That's usually when I'm "inspired" to give you, my dear beloved readers, a little insight into my life. And while we are talking to you, can we give a warm welcome to my girlfriend, Liz, to whom I finally revealed the existence of this diary? Everyone, be nice to her. I'll try not to let the fact that she knows about this corner of the interwebs prevent me from continuing to write the stuff that I write.

So, work. Things have been ramping up, and I've been involved in a bunch of meetings. And two weeks ago, I got temporarily "reassigned" to the animation studio in Burbank to help out with keeping track of all the shots and scenes that are being worked on. I've been thrust into the middle of a large, churning machine, and for the most part, people have been very helpful in getting me acclimated; but it's a similar situation to what was going on in the main offices, where everyone else is doing their thing, and I'm an outsider, an extraneous part, who's trying to fit in but not finding a place to fit. It's a bit frustrating. However, the times when I'm actually doing something and being useful are awfully nice. And, my boss up here has reported to my boss on the Fox lot that I'm doing a great job, so I might be up here permanently, floating down to Fox 2 or 3 times a week to take care of continuing projects there.

Being situated in Burbank means I'm much further away from Liz, so finding time to be with her has become a little more difficult. She did come to my cousin Eddie's wedding three weekends ago. Yes, she survived. And she likes my family. Interestingly enough, she felt most comfortable talking to the youngest cousins, Chris and Susie, because they're still in school (well, Chris is in grad school), and they reminded her of the undergrad students she teaches. Liz got to see my parents being cute and strange (Soph, Dad grabbed the DJ's microphone and tried to lead everyone in his dance; don't worry, it wasn't as mortifying as it could have been, because two memebers of the bride's family had, earlier in the night, grabbed his microphone and sang korean songs acapella, so they took the omgwtf cake).

Two weekends ago, we drove up to Santa Barbara to celebrate our 6-month-aversary. We stayed at a decent bed-and-breakfast, checked out the local mission, walked up and down the main drag. And watched the rain fall and fall and fall. It rarely rains up there, but that weekend, whoo boy, someone took an extra-long shower in heaven. It was ok, though. We discovered a lovely Pinot Noir from Fiddlehead while dining at Olio y Limone, and devoured these super thick cuts of bacon with our pancakes at Paula's Pancake House in Solvang. Yes, it was all about the food. And the company. Can't forget the company. We like Liz.

Last weekend, Liz had a college friend on honeymoon stop by for dinner and drinks. Lovely couple, the husband is a graphic designer who has drawn for both Marvel and DC, so we talked about comic books. And on Sunday, Liz and I went over to Eddie's place to watch the superbowl with the cousins and say goodbye to Eddie and his wife (they're moving up to San Francisco in a few weeks).

Ummm...I'll tell you about the weekDAYS next time.
