October 07, 2005 - 6:15 PM The Great 28! I'm still working on the entry about the wedding. It's stagnating in draft form. In the meantime, I'd like to say thank you to the people who wished me a happy birthday. Thanks to my parents, who called me up at 7 on Saturday morning and had this conversation with me: And that was all that I heard from them. Thanks to Soph for calling me at a more reasonable time to wish me a happy birthday. She was going to see the new David Cronenberg movie "A History of Violence" which I did my best to dissuade her from seeing since I didn't think she'd be down with a Cronenberg film, despite its having Aragorn in it. She also sent me a very cute card with an asian boy that looks kinda like Phil and me dressed up in an an Elvis jumpsuit with a toy guitar. Her gift to me is in the mail, and she promises that it'll be better than the sweet-ass omelette pan that she gave me for Christmas. Thanks to Phil for getting around to calling me later in the afternoon after the Red Sox/Yankees game. Apparently, his and Jen's tv went wonky the week before, and in order to watch the game on Friday night, they had to go out to a bar. Realizing that they didn't want to go to a bar at 1 in the afternoon on Saturday just to watch the game, they decided instead to drive the hour plus down into Connecticut to Jen's parents place to see the Sox lose. And to cook dinner for her family. Thanks to Mark for calling to wish me a happy damn birthday. Always a ray of sunshine in my life, he called me many names, told me how much I suck, and generally just made me feel good about myself. Dude, I have an awesome birthday present for you. Thanks to Nick for getting drunk and not being able to call me on my birthday. At least one of us got toasted on my birthday weekend. ;) Even better, he called me on Sunday with good wishes and all that stupid stuff. I lick you. Thanks to LDBL and Mer for being coerced into taking me out on Friday night to Gyu-Kaku. We had a lasagna dinner earlier in the week (me being a bad friend, I hadn't talked to either of them since Nick moved back to Maryland), and I asked what they were doing the coming weekend, what with it being my birthday. They thought about plans during the week, and originally wanted to take me to a Sports Bar in West Hollywood that has 150 hamburgers and 20 hot dogs to watch much baseball and eat much meat, but my suggestion of Gyu-Kaku was more appealing (especially considering that there'd only be one or two games on by the time we got to the bar). They treated me to drinks and some awesome japanese/korean barbecue. Bless their souls. Thanks to Tony, Margaret, Sharon, and Matt for also being coerced into celebrating my birthday with me. I called them to organize an outing for Saturday, left them to decide on a place to eat, then forced them to go see Serenity with me in the theaters afterwards. Sharon and Matt drove us to a small Italian place way out in the boonies (off of Kanan Road in Agoura Hills) that was surprisingly hip and hopping and tasty. We caught the after-10 PM screening of Serenity: I don't know if Tony or Sharon liked it, but me and Matt enjoyed it and Margaret fell asleep 7 minutes into it. Thanks to Yelee for the card. More reliable than the atomic clock is Yelee with her birthday and holiday cards. See you in November, right? Thanks to Pam for the well-wishing email. I will be in Boston and Worcester from the 23rd through the 28th or 29th before going down to Maryland. I might be able to steal one of my siblings' cars to meet up for drinks or a bank heist. Your choice. 27th sound ok? I am now 28. Now Listening To : Sarah McLachlan- Surfacing (it has been probably more than 3 years since I listened to this album) Random Thought : It gets dark so early now. Boo. Booooooo.
