January 03, 2007 - 3:51 PM 2007 Comes in With a Surprise I have got to stop making sense of this world. I just found out that Hilary Hahn recorded violin on an album for this guy, Tom Brosseau, who works on a side project with Angela Correa, the girl for whom I play cello. Hilary is taking time between gigs this month to play with Tom on his album release tour, including here in L.A. at Amoeba Records and Largo. What a weird, small place this is. Happy New Year, faithful readers! It's been 22 days since my last confession. Twenty-two days, sir! (My leg's a bit gammy...I'd rather eat Hodges) My parents came into town on the 25th, and we celebrated with feasting at Tony's parents house up north in Valencia. Tony's dad grilled me about Liz and did a fair job of making me blush uncontrollably. He's a realy softie/romantic, so his questions were like "do you remember when you first held her hand? what were you thinking? what was your first date?", and there was this whole thing about how I should tell her that I can't breathe without her, that she is my oxygen. Eventually, I had to go hide behind Tony's mom to escape. I picked up Liz on the 26th from the airport (she had traveled back to Falls Church, VA for Christmas with her family), and we spent the day exchanging gifts and napping (she fell asleep at 2 PM and didn't wake up until 6; I played with my Transformer toy which she got me...awesome). Wednesday the 27th, 11:37 AM, my parents met Liz. Wednesday the 27th, 11:38 AM, the world has not exploded. We are safe. My parents had decided to come to L.A. for the holidays just a few weeks beforehand, and at first I was uneasy about it. But then I discussed it with Liz (and Soph and a few others), and as long as we were steeled for it, we figured we could actually have a good time. I suggested that, since both my parents and Liz like to hike, we should try a trail; Liz knew of the perfect place up near Malibu and the ocean. After Liz's dog placed kisses all over my parents' faces, we drove out to Temescal Canyon and began the trail. It was a beautiful day, and a pleasant hike with just enough toughness to give us a workout. I then thought my parents would enjoy an exhibit at the Getty Museum of Icons and Artifacts from Mount Sinai, so we dropped them off there; I took Liz back to her place to get cleaned up and changed, for when we picked up my parents a few hours later, we journeyed up to the Valley to have dinner with Tony's family at a Korean restaurant. Liz and I survived that night thanks to guile, our wits, and everyone else at the table "shushing" Tony's dad as best they could. Everyone liked Liz, and Liz liked everyone. That hurdle has been cleared. *whew* ******** Well, since the last one. Now Listening To : Beautiful South- Superbi Random Thought : I miss you all. What I Just Wrote Before - What I'm About to Write
