2004 In Review

2004 is over, and it seems like, on first retrospect, it went by very quickly. But going through all the entries I've posted here, I realize a LOT of shit went down. Things were gained, things were lost. I got a new job 4 times, and each one was a fulfilling experience. My cat, Newt, left the family; my parents sold the house in Maryland that I grew up in after owning it for 25 years to move to Phoenix. Nick, LDBL, and Mer went to Italy for 2 weeks; Tony, Margaret, and Joan went to France and London for over a week. I had a couple automobile accidents, went to a bunch of baseball games, learned to surf and rock climb, got back in touch with old friends, and, oh yeah, my sister got married.

I turned 27 and feel old and young at the same time. I'm still kicking around, trying to find my way, figure out my profession, but I'm satisfied with where I am, fairly steady and stable at the TV show with occasional opportunities to climb into the pilot's seat at the recording studio or the theater. 2005, my 28th year, will be filled with tons of new experiences. We can only hope that among them are skydiving, a new girlfriend, a trip or two to San Francisco, the wedding of LDBL and Mer, a larger workload at work, more chances to do music recording and mixing on stuff that I like, and babies for everyone.

Here's a list of my favorite things from 2004...I might have to come back to revise it later on.

Albums:
1) Sarah Slean- Day One
2) Hanneke Cassel- Some Melodious Sonnet
3) Adrianne- 10,000 Stones (and not just because I mixed two songs on the album)
4) Sam Phillips- A Boot and a Shoe
5) Snow Patrol- Final Straw
6) Keane- Hopes and Fears
7) Sarah Harmer- All of Our Names
8) Feist - Let It Die
9) Amy Cooper
10) Vienna Teng- Warm Strangers
11) Saucy Monky- Speedball
12) The Like- Like It Or Not (an EP)

Honorable Mentions:
Anne Heaton, Stephanie Winters, Carina Round, Granddaddy

Previous years' albums that I finally "Got":
1) Leona Naess- I Tried to Rock You But You Only Roll (this has
quickly jumped into my top 10 of all time)
2) Jamie Blake- Jamie Blake (like Garrison Starr filtered through the
Boston alt-pop-rock of the mid 90's)
3) Leona Naess- Leona Naess
4) Phantom Planet- The Guest
5) The Animators- Home by Now
6) Yardley- Sketch of You
7) Weeping Tile- Cold Snap

Movies of 2004:
1) The Incredibles
2) Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
3) Super Size Me
4) Anchorman (because of Steve Carrel)
5) Mean Girls
